PSYCH STUFF

 Liberals, Conservatives, Hawks, and Doves

The fictional characters in the novel are developed and often labeled by personality factors or types. While the terms are in common usage, and are intuitively easy to understand, the author of this novel is providing a graphic to display the two factor model he is using. The author is also listing several personality traits of the four personality types as they relate to characters in the novel. Personality type is determined and maintained by an individual’s DNA and life experiences. All four personality types are equal in value to society, and no personality type is “bad”. There is constant political and social tension among the types, but no personality type is considered the best one.

It is highly probable that an equal number of males and females are in each personality type, and that each personality type represents 25% of the population.

Liberal Extraverts (Players) – individual freedom, play ethic, pleasure seeking, hyper-sexual, risk-taking, likes variety, aggressive, dominance, low emotional and stress response, norm doubting, creative, rule breaking.

Conservative Extraverts (Phonies) – conformity, work ethic, pleasure avoidant, hypo-sexual, risk-taking, dislikes change, aggressive, dominance, low emotional and stress response, norm favoring, non-creative, rule following.

Liberal introverts (Pagans) – individual freedom, play ethic, pleasure seeking, hyper-sexual, risk-avoidant, open to experience, passive, submissive, high emotional and stress response, norm doubting, creative, rule breaking.

Conservative introverts (Puritans) – conformity, work ethic, pleasure avoidant, hypo-sexual, risk avoidant, closed to experience, passive, submissive, high emotional and stress response, norm favoring, non-creative, rule following.

Which personality type best fits you?

There is a free Five Factor personality research test which is available online that appears to be accurate and consistent with personality factor theory. It will provide you with a simple personality description after you submit the completed test. However, the factor names are different. To connect it to the above graphic and brief personality descriptions, Open to New Experiences is Liberal, Conscientious is Conservative, Agreeableness is Introvert, and Extravert is the same term. The Neuroticism factor was not used in the graphic or descriptions in this introduction.
